Conifer- there needle like leaves helps reduce water loss & branches slope downward to aid in shedding snow to help branches from breaking. Wax coating on needles help prevent evaporation. Dark in color so more solar heat is absorbed
Ferns-can grow where many other plants cannot because it doesn't need much sunlight. Due to the thick canopy in Taiga forest it doesn't allow a lot of sunlight, but ferns can thrive in this environment.
